Community Center Committee
to be arranged and announced
Mission and Purpose
Developers in Union Square are required by zoning law to either set aside square footage towards a community center within the area of their property or to contribute a substantial monetary sum in lieu of that obligation for construction of such a facility on the property of another developer. Many neighbors in the Union Square area feel that we would all be better served if all but one of the developers exercise the in lieu option, so that we can achieve the synergistic effects resulting from one large community center rather than having several smaller ones. The developers and the City both seem interested. But there has been no leadership from the City.
This committee is being formed for the purpose of thinking through what we want and expect in a community center and to communicate with and report recommendations to the USNC board, and possibly to have direct interactions with personnel representing the City and developers.
If you would like to become a member of this committee, please send a message via the contact form, providing as much information about yourself and your ideas on this subject as you think appropriate.
